Filming process

The website is the largest website of its kind—hosting tens of thousands of videos and receiving millions of visitors. In April, the website blocked visitors from the UK after lawmakers in the country announced plans to make it a criminal offense to create nonconsensual explicit deepfakes. Multiple legal proceedings against the creators of GirlsDoPorn, people affiliated with the website, and Pornhub’s parent company are ongoing or have been completed—with criminal charges being issued against several GirlsDoPorn organizers in October 2019. The dozen videos—which ran up to 21 minutes long and racked up tens of thousands of views before they were taken down following WIRED’s inquiry—used footage originally posted to the GirlsDoPorn website and had celebrity faces added using artificial intelligence.

This included one cameraman, whose face was never shown but whose voice was rife throughout the video… After a four-year legal battle, the plaintiffs were vindicated by Judge Enright’s finding in their favor on all claims, and they have been working to put their lives back together while the attorneys seek to recover assets to satisfy the judgment. She told the Guardian that the #MeToo movement had a major impact on the trial. “[As] the only millennial female reporter to cover the trial in-person … I don’t think this trial could have had this result and I don’t think the Jane Does’ attorneys could have built a case and gotten them to agree to testify were it not for the #MeToo movement in the US.

Attorney’s Office and the civil lawsuit both alleged that young women who applied online for modeling jobs as far back as 2015 were initially deceived about the true nature of the work — to appear in porn videos. Per his own lawyers’ admission, Pratt was in New Zealand during the trial, but his parents admit that they haven’t seen him in some time. Pornhub listed the official Girls Do Porn channels as a “Content Partner”, and only removed it as a partner after the owners and employees of the ring—by then already embroiled in the civil trial—were charged with federal sex trafficking counts.

“Out of respect for the integrity of court proceedings, our policy is not to comment on ongoing litigation,” said Ethical Capital Partner’s spokeswoman, Bain. In a nod to the scope of this litigation tsunami, a federal judge in California used the phrase “tens of thousands of children” in a November order granting class certification to one of at least two class-action trafficking suits against Pornhub and MindGeek, which rebranded last year as Aylo. A 15-year-old Florida girl who went missing for a year was found when a Pornhub user reached out to the girl’s mother.

Jane Doe 7 ended up filming a porn video under duress in a hotel room where furniture blocked the door, preventing her from leaving.

Michael Pratt was recently captured in Spain, while his victims, their attorneys, and federal prosecutors await his extradition to the U.S. A federal judge has ordered that all victims of the GirlsDoPorn and GirlsDoToys—sex-trafficking rings that coerced potentially hundreds of women into having sex on camera—have the rights to the videos and images they appeared in with those companies. Prosecutors have alleged that Pratt and those who worked for him recruited young women online as models, but when the women arrived in San Diego, they were pressured to have sex on camera. The women were told the videos would go to private DVD collections overseas, but instead they were widely disseminated on the GirlsDoPorn network of sites, as well as free pornography sites. Pratt is accused of working with four people − Matthew Wolfe, Ruben Garcia, Valorie Moser, and Theodore Gyi − to “recruit young adult women to engage in commercial sex acts by fraud and coercion,” according to court documents.
